Dear Fir Grove families.

I hope this letter finds you well. The first day of school is fast approaching, and I wanted to share some important dates for your calendar and an update that should greatly improve communication between home and school.

Our Open House is scheduled for Monday August 26 from 4-5:30 pm. This event is an opportunity for you to meet your child’s teacher, see the classroom and ask any questions you may have. Our teachers and mental health staff will be there to welcome you and your child to the new school year.

The first day of school is Tuesday August 27. Our school hours remain 8:25 am- 2:05 pm, except for Monday’s when we release at 1:25 pm. Transportation will be calling you in the days before the first day of school to let you know pick up time for your child. If you have moved, changed phone numbers, or have new before/after care for your child, please make sure to update that with the main office at Fir Grove, and your home district if it is not Vancouver, to ensure a smooth first day of school.

The expectation for all Fir Grove students, while at school, they will be focused on their learning. To help with that, we ask all students to turn in their cell phones and technology to their teacher upon arrival at school. Each classroom has charging cables and power strips, so their technology can get charged while at school. The teacher will store technology securely during the school day. All technology will be returned at the end of the school day. To support this, please remind your child of the expectation while at school, and if you have a question or need to get a message to your child, please call the main school number 360-313-1800. We will make sure the students gets the message.

We recognize that we are all busy, and communication can be challenging. To help with that, our teachers will be using the school communication app Remind this year. Your teacher will send you an invitation code via Remind to join their classroom, and then you will be connected with your child’s teacher. You can use the Remind app on your phone or any internet connected device, and you can use cell data, wifi or the phone option. Remind can be used to share our daily point sheet, ask questions (via text messages, email or phone) or share a concern. The goal is to make communication with your teacher easier and more productive.

All students school supplies are provided by the school. Students do not need to bring backpacks to school. Items from home should be left at school, so as not to become a distraction during the school day.

If your child will be taking medication while at school, please let the school know. Per state law, we will need the medication administration form completed by their doctor period to giving meds at school.

We look forward to a great year working together supporting your child and their learning. Hope to see many of you Monday August 26 for our Open House. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you,

Jeremy Berliss
